Wrought Iron and Steel Fence Repair in Allen, TX
The black metal fences along Allen’s greenbelts, golf course lots and pools are mostly welded steel. They fail slowly, at the joints, and most of it can be repaired in place.
Where Metal Fences Fail
Rust starts where water sits: the bottom rail, the base of each picket, and any weld where the paint has cracked.
Bubbled paint is the first sign. Under it the steel is already rusting. Left alone, the rust eats through the bottom of a picket or the wall of the rail, and the picket comes loose.
Posts are the other weak point. A metal post rusts at the ground and can loosen in its footing as the clay around it shrinks and swells, the same way a wooden fence post does.

What a Repair Involves
- Surface rust. The area is taken down to bare metal, primed and painted. Done early, this is all a fence needs.
- A loose or broken picket. It is cut out and a new one welded in, then primed and painted.
- A rusted-through rail. A length of rail is cut out and replaced, or the panel is swapped if the damage runs along it.
- A leaning post. The post is reset or replaced in new concrete. The city’s guideline gives 18 inches as the post depth.
- Impact damage. A bent panel from a mower, vehicle or fallen limb is straightened or replaced.
Welding is done on site, so the contractor needs access to both sides and clear ground with nothing dry and flammable under the work.

Greenbelt, Golf Course and Pool Fences
Metal fences in Allen are usually there for a reason. A lot that backs to a creek, a greenbelt or a golf course often has an open metal fence on that side so the view stays open, and the homeowner association commonly sets the height, style and color. Check the association’s rules before changing anything, and check whether that stretch belongs to you or to the association.
A metal fence around a pool is a safety barrier. The city’s guideline requires it to be at least 4 feet high with gates that close and latch by themselves. A missing picket is a gap in that barrier and should not wait. Gates and pool latches.
The guideline lists brick, wood and wrought iron as acceptable fence materials. If you are thinking of replacing a metal fence with something else, ask the city and your association first.
Questions About Wrought Iron and Steel Fence Repair
How much does wrought iron fence repair cost?
A 2026 national guide gives $300 to $1,067 for wrought iron fence repair. Welding and repainting on site is why it runs higher than wood.
Can a rusted iron fence be saved?
If the rust is on the surface or limited to a few pickets and a section of rail, yes. When rails are rusted through along their length, replacing panels is usually the better use of money.
Is my fence wrought iron or steel?
Most residential fences sold as wrought iron today are welded tubular steel. The repair approach is the same, and people use the two names for the same fence.
Who repairs the fence along the greenbelt behind my house?
It depends on who owns it. Ask your homeowner association whether that fence is yours or theirs before arranging a repair.
