Fence Repair in Cottonwood Bend

Homes here were built from 1984 to 1997. No fence in Cottonwood Bend is original any more without having been rebuilt somewhere along its length.

A Fence Line Made of Several Fences

On a street this age, expect each side of the yard to be a different age, and expect at least one side to still be standing on wooden posts.

A house from 1984 is 42 years old in 2026 and one from 1997 is 29. Over that time owners on both sides of each line have replaced stretches when they failed. The result is a backyard where the left side may be five years old on steel posts and the back may be twenty-five years old and patched.

That makes the first job an inventory: walk each side, push the posts, and note what they are made of.

What That Means for a Repair

  • Mixed posts. Wooden posts next to steel ones in the same run. The wooden ones are the ones to plan around.
  • Mixed heights and styles. A new section will not match the old unless the whole side is done or stained to blend.
  • Shared costs with a history. The neighbor may have paid for the last repair, or may think they did. Ask before assuming.
  • Attached homes. Cottonwood Bend includes townhomes and other attached housing as well as detached houses. Short patio fences between attached homes may be covered by association rules; check before changing one.

The City of Allen’s guideline calls for metal posts on all fencing, so each wooden post that is replaced here is a step toward a fence that can be re-skinned later without digging.

Cottonwood Bend Fence Questions

Should I replace one side at a time?

Many owners do, starting with the worst side. Ask the contractor to keep the post type, height and picket style the same each time so the yard ends up consistent.

Who pays for the side I share?

Texas law generally does not require a neighbor to share the cost unless they agreed to. Most neighbors work it out. See the shared fence page.

Does Cottonwood Bend have fence rules of its own?

This site did not find a published fence standard for Cottonwood Bend. If your part of it has an association, ask it; the city’s guideline applies either way.

Start With the Worst Side

Tell the contractor which side it is and what the posts are made of.
