Fence Repair in Fountain Park

Fountain Park’s first homes date from 1972, a generation before most of Allen was built. Fences here have been rebuilt more than once, and not always the same way.

Older Than the City Around It

Allen’s median home was built in 2003. A Fountain Park home from the 1970s is around 50 years old, and its fence line has seen several different fences.

On lots this age you find things that newer subdivisions do not have: fence types from earlier decades, lines that have drifted a little with each rebuild, and trees that have grown into or over the fence.

One real estate guide lists build years in Fountain Park from 1972 to 2021, so newer houses stand among the older ones and fence ages vary lot by lot.

What a Rebuild Has to Meet Today

Whatever the old fence was, a new one is built to the current guideline. The City of Allen lists brick, wood and wrought iron as acceptable fence materials, requires metal posts with metal caps and hardware set 18 inches deep in concrete, and caps back and side yard fences at 8 feet.

If the existing fence is a material that is not on that list, ask Building and Permitting at 214.509.4130 whether it can be repaired as it is or has to be replaced with a listed material. This site could not find that answer in writing.

Trees and Fence Lines

Mature trees are hard on fences. Limbs drop on them in storms and trunks and roots push posts out of line. A contractor can frame a fence around a trunk or shift a post, but cannot cut a neighbor’s tree, and tree work is a separate trade.

After a storm, see storm-damaged fence repair.

Fountain Park Fence Questions

Can I keep my old chain link fence?

The city’s guideline lists brick, wood and wrought iron as acceptable materials. Ask Building and Permitting whether an existing fence of another material can stay or be repaired.

The fence is not on the property line. What now?

Find your survey before rebuilding. If you and the neighbor disagree about the line, that is a legal matter for an attorney.

Does Fountain Park have an HOA fence rule?

This site did not find one. Check your deed restrictions.
